Elif Kavakci completed her dissertation entitled, "(Re)Defining Modest Sportswear Through the Hijabi Habitus: Intersections of Faith, Fashion, and Function in Muslim Women’s Sportswear Design" and graduated in the Spring of 2026 with her Ph.D.
She is an Associate Professor of Practice and the Chair of the fashion program at the University of Arizona.

Elif Kavakci completed her dissertation entitled, "(Re)Defining Modest Sportswear Through the Hijabi Habitus: Intersections of Faith, Fashion, and Function in Muslim Women’s Sportswear Design" and graduated in the Spring of 2026 with her Ph.D.

Elif Kavakci is an Associate Professor of Practice and the Chair of the fashion program at the University of
Arizona. She is a fashion designer who specializes in modest wear and human centered design. She has
an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, a Master's in Liberal Studies with a major in
Fashion Studies and a minor in Media, Communication and Technology. She is a transfer student from
the University of Texas At Dallas's Aesthetic Studies, Ph.D. program. Her research interests are in fashion
studies, digital culture, and social media influencers. When she is not working, she loves spending time
with horses.
